The Police Department recently concluded its Comprehensive Recruitment Plan for the position of Police Officer. During the recruitment process, which began on November 1, 2008 and ended on November 24, 2008, 303 applications were distributed; 213 were completed and returned. On Saturday, December 6, 2008 the physical agility test and the written exam were held at St. Charles East High School. There were 157 applicants in attendance for the physical agility test, which was held in the morning. Of those who tested, 119 passed and were invited to participate in the written examination in the afternoon. The Department is grateful to the members of the Police Department, Human Resources, and the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners who volunteered their time and gave up a Saturday to assist with the testing. It would not have been a success without their help.

  • Officer Scott Coryell received his Criminal Forensic Investigative Techniques certification on December 4, 2008 after completing a series of forensic investigation courses offered by Northwestern University. The 200-hour program consisted of training in forensic investigative procedures and investigative photography. Officer Coryell is one of five officers of the St. Charles Police Department to receive this distinguished recognition from Northwestern.
  • The St. Charles Police Dept has a new officer. K9 Aries just completed seven weeks of training with his handler, Officer Nic Anson. At the completion of his training, Aries had to complete an independent certification through the North American Police Work Dog Association. Aries successfully completed the certification process. Aries has already recorded his first narcotics arrest after finding cannabis in a car. Aries and Officer Anson will now be on regular patrol together.
