  • May 15, 2009 - Construction Update - Phase II work continues with ceiling and flooring work nearing completion. Construction work continues with minor rock breaking that is required for the installation of the floor drains in the new addition. Masonry work for the hose tower should be completed and the scaffolding removed.
  • Mar. 13, 2009 - Cedar Ave. Now Open - The iron work on the Fire Station, that necessitated the use of the crane, has been completed. The temporary closures of Cedar Avenue will no longer be required as of today and all barricades have been removed. No further road closures are planned until the road work begins on First Avenue. This portion of the project is not scheduled until early April. Thank you all for your understanding during the past two weeks.
  • Feb. 27 - Fire Station #1 Construction is now ready for the erection of steel during the week of March 2. To prepare for this, the City will be closing Cedar Avenue between First and Second Avenues for approximately two weeks. Flyers have been distributed in the area with the closure information and the City will be monitoring the situation closely. Driveways for SG too, Mariposa Design and the Glos House will remain open. The sidewalk on the south side of First Avenue will also remain open. Residents should expect to see signage advising of the street closure and steel delivery trucks coming and going during that period of construction.
  • Oct. 31, 2008 - In the last two weeks, a construction fence and visibility barrier has been installed around the project site. The sidewalk on the east side of First Avenue, between Cedar and State has been closed. The street signs and several trees have been removed in order to facilitate this site work.

Interior demolition has been progressing rapidly with substantial progress in the basement, first and second floors. The City of St. Charles Fire Department and Public Works Department has meet with the Downtown Partnership to consult on a signage plan for future road closures.

Site work plans for next week include the excavation of the parking lot and work on the retaining wall. A WebCam has been installed on City Hall and will soon be available to view online.
  • October 14 , 2008 - The project groundbreaking ceremony took place Tuesady, October 14, 2008.
